Fiona Mackillop
GDC 68969 Registered Specialist in Periodontics
Specialist in Periodontics, Dental Implant SurgeonBDS (Glas) MSc
I qualified from Glasgow University in 1993 and following a short spell in general practice working in all aspects of restorative dentistry, I began my career in Periodontology and Implant Dentistry, achieving a Masters Degree from Guy’s Hospital in Periodontics in 1997.
In 1998 I was invited to take the post of Assistant Clinical Professor of Surgical Sciences (Periodontics) at New York University. During this period I became interested in bone and soft tissue regeneration and augmentation techniques and joined the American Academy of Periodontology.
On returning to London, I was accepted on to the specialist register in Periodontology, and then continued to teach at Guy’s Hospital for several years as an Honorary Clinical Demonstrator in the Department of Periodontology. Although my practice is now focused very much upon periodontics and implant dentistry, I highly value the time spent working as a general dentist which has given me an all-round perspective, helping me to manage challenging multidisciplinary treatments, and provide effective support for referring practitioners.
As the periodontal lead in the practice, I enjoy our team approach to working with the therapists and hygienists and other disciplines and specialists, to offer our patients the very best gum care and implant dentistry available.
My particular interests are in aesthetics, periodontology and implant dentistry. I continue to lecture and teach in the UK and abroad.
