Looking back; advancing forward – Reflections on 25 years of implant practice

This presentation will draw upon more than 25-years of experience collaborating with a spectrum of referring dentists, laboratories, manufacturers and an ever-evolving array of technologies, in this presentation Dr Dawood will reflect upon past and present challenges, and success and failure in implant practice.

Aims and objectives:

To review how the practice of implant dentistry has changed over the years
To identify past and present strengths and weaknesses
To suggest strategies for improved predictability and the avoidance of failure
To describe some of the pressures and complexities of implant practice

Dawood and Tanner is an absolutely incredible Dental Practice. In my experience, everyone is extremely skilled & professional but also warm and friendly which puts you at ease. I saw Chloe today for a Hygenist appointment, she gave me lots of tips on how to look after my implants & gums, what dental ‘tools’ to use (special brushes & floss etc.) to keep them in good shape. She made me feel very comfortable in my appointment and my mouth felt lovely and clean afterwards. I then saw Susan (Tanner) & Andrew (Dawood) for a check-up. I had a few questions which they kindly answered and in the process put my mind at rest. Amazing practice - I wouldn’t go anywhere else now! I whole-heartedly recommend 😊

I have escaped invasive dental work until this week when I had to have root canal treatment for a cracked back tooth and an extraction of another tooth which was too cracked to be saved. I was nervous but Shanon did a wonderful job on the root canal and Andrew stepped in to do the extraction late in the day. They were both sensitive to my anxiety, and did an excellent job. I cannot recommend the practice more highly.

I have been a patient at Dawood & Tanner for over 12 years seeing Dr Fiona Mackillop for restorative treatments due to gum disease. As part of my ongoing treatment, I also see hygienists Elizabeth Simpson and Tannaz Joorabchian regularly.Everyone that I have met at the practice is not only really professional and very good at what they do but they are also very friendly and are experts at making patients feel at ease before any procedure. I am never in any pain after treatment which must be a testament to the skill of Dr Mackillop. I would not hesitate to recommend her. The same is true of hygienists Elizabeth & Tannaz. My teeth always feel and look super clean after dental hygiene with them.I always feel well informed about any treatment I need as all the details are confirmed in advance in writing so I know what to expect and if I have any questions these are answered quickly.

I discovered Dawood and Tanner some years ago after experiencing problems with previous root canal work. Fiona Mackillop was amazing and I couldn’t have been more satisfied.However, my recent experience has exceeded my expectations. I needed emergency treatment following a fall on holiday in Australia. A quick call ensured that they saw me the day I arrived home, two further appointments were arranged and a temporary bridge was fitted within just three days! Fiona MacKillop, my periodontist and Taz, my hygienist have looked after my teeth for years and without these brilliant experts I definitely would have lost teeth and suffered hugely.Fiona MacKillop recommended I see an oral surgeon recently as she suspected there was something wrong with my gums and the skin in my mouth.To explain for 1.5 years since the 4th Covid vaccine I have been suffering very debilitating external skin diseases .I have seen many dermatologists without any results or cure .Finally Professor Fedele following several biopsies diagnosed Lichen Planus an autoimmune disease that has been triggered by the Covid vaccine.This has led to further investigations where Lichen planus has been detected in other areas of my body.Without Fiona’s prompt referral I would still be suffering and none the wiser as to what is wrong with me.Possibly without treatment it could have turned cancerous.I am hugely grateful and so lucky to have had such advanced and thorough treatment at Dawood and Tanner .It is an extremely advanced practice and the staff and kind, yet exemplary and efficient.Fiona and Taz have saved my teeth and possibly my life.My thanks and gratitude to you both and all the staff .

So i first heard of Dawood and Tanner from a radio ad. I took a look at their website and was very impressed with what i saw. A vast array of treatment options and services all under one roof. I had to check them out. Best thing i ever did! Even the first phone call to arrange an appointment was more warm and welcoming than anything i had ever experienced previously from anywhere else. I met with Fiona and Emily and they made me feel so at ease. Fiona explained things in a very simple, knowledgeable and professional manner but also in a way that didn't scare me half to death. I learned more from just one visit than i had in the last 20 years. I have been there a few times recently, and now Liz the hygienist is also looking after me expertly too. Each time it has been a positive experience for me and i feel totally relaxed each time i go there. We have a good laugh too and i leave there equally relaxed.I have read a lot of the other reviews on here for D&T and they echo all of my thoughts completely. There are a couple of negative ones though that don't make any sense to me whatsoever and are nowhere close to my experiences.Believe me.....if you're looking for a fantastic dentist , you're on the right page. If in a few days/weeks you're still not sure and still sitting on the fence, then you must like splinters!I'm looking forward to seeing Fiona, Emily and Liz again soon.I know i'm in good hands.

I have been attending Dawood and Tanner for some 24 years! My mouth was in need of a lot of work, despite the fact that I regularly visited a dentist (evidently not a good one though). My root canals were failing and I had gum disease! At Dawood and Tanner I had many hygiene visits and deep cleaning from Fiona MacKillop and then she performed surgery on my gums. Eventually I was rid of gum disease. Then Andrew Dawood sorted out my root canals and my implant. The hygienist helped me with teeth whitening. I developed a gap between my front two teeth due to the previous gum disease allowing the teeth to twist and that needed to be addressed with orthodontics. I had braces fitted to both my top and bottom teeth to straighten them to prevent the damage getting worse. One and a half years later they were straight. Next issue: my jaw was slightly crooked causing my teeth to wear down at an angle. To address this problem Andrew Chandrapal bonded my teeth and Fiona adjusted my crowns to create an even biting surface. Jenny Huntley makes sure my hygiene is kept up to scratch; I see her every three months. Over the years I have seen the business grow, adding more staff and more services, but still staying warm and genuinely friendly. They have some of the best equipment anywhere and they work as a team. At one point 3 experts had a meeting about my teeth!Yes it has stretched my finances over the years but I still have my teeth - I can eat well, they look really healthy and natural, and will continue to last me the next 24 years with help from the team at Dawood & Tanner.

I was recommended to see Dr Fiona MacKillop by my own dentist who advised the only solution to two lost teeth was a denture or an implant, which would require a sinus lift, bone graft and the very awkward removal of broken tooth. Not only was I totally reassured that this work, that everyone else had told me was complicated and possibly painful, was routine for Fiona, it was just that! The sinus lift, bone graft and the implants were totally painless, in fact I never had any pain killers afterwards at all, not because I am a hero, but because I had no pain and only very mild 'discomfort'Fionas nurse, Emily, helped make the whole process almost a pleasure, the right balance of concern, professionalism and humour was what prompted me to do this review.
